Over the past year, we have worked closely with several pest control services and have become the go-to team for preparing residences for cockroach and bedbug treatments. We are well-versed in the necessary protocols, including responsible removal of contents, as well as additional cleaning and laundry services when required.
This particular apartment in Brampton was a challenge, to say the least! The tenant had been evicted, leaving behind not only an overwhelming mess but also one of the worst cockroach infestations I’ve ever encountered.
Before we could prepare the unit for treatment, we had a lot of work to do. Our first day was dedicated to clearing out all the garbage. Working with building management, we arranged for a 40-yard dumpster to be delivered and picked up the same day, and the elevator was made available for our use throughout the process.
Everything removed from the unit was carefully bagged or wrapped in plastic and transported in large rolling bins to prevent further contamination of the building. The owner had initially wanted to keep the appliances, but they were so badly damaged that we had no choice but to wrap and dispose of them as well. By the end of the first day, the entire unit had been cleared out.
On the second day, we focused on cleaning and preparation. The building management requested that we clean the unit as thoroughly as possible. While they were aware that a full renovation would be needed, they wanted it in a condition that wouldn’t be off-putting to the contractors. We wiped down everything—walls, baseboards, door trims, windows—ensuring the space was as clean as possible.
For preparation, we vacuumed up all live and dead bugs and unswept debris into a filtered bag. That bag, along with all other kitchen debris, was sealed in a garbage bag and properly disposed of. Every square inch of the kitchen and bathroom, particularly around the toilet and baseboards, was thoroughly de-greased. Since this unit was vacant, we didn’t have to handle any personal belongings, but in cases where a tenant is still living in the home, we would empty all drawers and cabinets, storing their contents in sealed containers.
Overall, the landlord was extremely pleased with the results. In just two days, the unit was emptied, cleaned, and fully prepped. The pest control company was able to come in and spray the very next day!
